i just paid about $10,000 of my debt off a few months ago and i have about $3,000 left to pay in medical debt (which is in collection). I just lost my job and i was wondering if i can apply for a government program that will help me to get rid of just the medical portion of my debt?

Doubtful, the tax payers pay for medical expenses, but at the time the occured, not after you decided not to pay your own bills.
The hospitals have payment programs, you need to contact them.

why,.. its a debt in which you haven’t paid yet? put it off until you get a job and then pay it. why do you want the goverment to pay it for you,… if that’s the case just don’t pay it at all and in a while it won’t show up on your credit report anylonger

Dont think there are any progams that will help. Hurry find another job, call the hospital and get on a payment plan. That is probably the best way to go, plus the longer you are jobless the more debt to will get anyway.

you should not have paid anything and had it written off, like alot of people do. That’s one reason we all need universal health care, why only the politicians?

Just make any type of payment you can. While you are looking for a new job, sell stuff like crazy! Pay ANYTHiNG towards your debt. Just try to make the minimum payment and call the collections department for that bill and get an arrangement set up! You can always ask them for assistance.
